Smalley wins GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award for 8th consecutive year

Rings and springs manufacturer Smalley was recently presented the General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award for the year 2019, marking the eighth consecutive year the Lake Zurich, IL-based company has received this prestigious honor.

Smalley is the inventor of the edgewound wave spring, among many other innovations, and has more than 100 years of manufacturing experience. Over the years, the company has evolved to become a world leader in the manufacturing and development of Retaining Rings, Spirolox Retaining Rings, Constant Section Rings, and Wave Springs.

One of their most recent innovations is the development of Linear Springs, which are a continuous wave formed (marcelled) wire length produced from spring tempered materials. They act as a load-bearing device with approximately the same load/deflection characteristics as a wave spring. Linear Springs are now available as a standard part in carbon and stainless steel, with over 200 sizes.

General Motors works with thousands of suppliers worldwide, but only a small percentage are presented with this award. The Supplier Quality Excellence Award is reserved exclusively for top-performing suppliers that have met or exceeded a rigorous quality audit involving 13 specific requirements, including zero product defects and continual on-time delivery.

Smalley is a quality-driven organization dedicated to manufacturing excellence. From steering systems to electric motors, Smalley retaining rings and wave springs have been trusted in the automotive industry for more than a century.

"To be recognized for our commitment to quality, customer service, and engineering excellence is a great honor," said Jamie Madison, Smalley's director of Quality Engineering. "We strive to be a trusted partner to GM and the global automotive industry, so to receive this award for eight consecutive years is a great confirmation of our efforts and position as an industry leader."

Smalley's products are manufactured in compliance to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001. With award-winning quick inspection processes within the manufacturing flow, Smalley provides the highest level of quality every time.
